2021 marks the 36th Arrowtown Autumn Festival and will run from the 22-26th April.
The festival will include many of the iconic events that our locals and visitors alike look forward to, for example the Quiz (Thursday 22nd), the Art Exhibition Opening (Friday 23rd), the ASB Market Day and Street Parade (Saturday 24th) and the Pie, Pint and Pinot (Monday 26th).
The kids can be entertained with juggling workshops and balloon twisting workshops as well as our very popular outdoor movie (Shrek) and they can also have a go at some circus tricks at the trapeze and rope workshop taking place after the parade on Saturday.
This year we introduce a new event, the Great Scarecrow Trail which is being run as a fundraiser for the local kids’ cricket club. Purchase a map and walk around Arrowtown to find all the scarecrows. Each scarecrow is made to match a theme (desserts), guess what they are and submit your completed map at the end to go in the draw to win some prizes. This is a perfect family friendly event to do at your leisure.
Another new event that we are super excited to be running is the Wine Barrel Art Charity Auction. Our sponsor Akarua has donated wine barrels which are being transformed by some very talented local artists. These barrels will be on display throughout the festival and bidding will be via silent auction. A percentage of the proceeds will go direct to a local charity (TBC). We will be posting more details about this online over the coming weeks.
We are running two races this year, the Arrow River Dash which is suitable for everyone or Tobins Rush which is a new more competitive event where participants race up and down Tobins Track to compete for the title of King and Queen of the mountain. The talented people at Active QT are helping us with this so log on to their website to register.
The Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea is a highlight of the festival. We have a local band Bourbon Sour entertaining along with the Miners Band, Buckingham Belles and Arrow Entertainers. Be sure to secure your free tickets through the Lakes District Museum as this event fills up quickly.
Find out some interesting historical facts and amusing stories about our beautiful town from our knowledgeable locals at the Arrow Ambles and Historical Tree walks. These are super fun and well worth it.
Our biggest day is the ASB Market Day and Street Parade. Come along and enjoy delicious food, browse the many arts and crafts stalls which showcase NZ made products, enjoy the entertainment on the many stages and the streets and watch the colour and vitality of our amazing street parade.
If you like to dance then the Saturday night Roaring 20’s Prohibition Party is the gig for you. There will be live music, entertainment and tasty food all under the guise of secrecy, after all it is prohibition! Tickets will be available via Humanitix from mid-March, don’t miss out.
The Pie, Pint and Pinot will be held on Monday 26th with tickets being available via Humanitix in mid-March. This event always sells out so keep an eye out on our website and facebook page. We have a great lineup of brewers, tasty pie makers, wine by Akarua and even a ginger beer stall this year. There will be great entertainment to enjoy while relaxing under the trees in the Library Green. Remember this is a R18 event so anyone under this age will not be permitted in the venue and also leave your furry friends at home.
Over the 5 days we offer many more events, check them out on our website www.arrowtownautumnfestival.co.nz
The Art Exhibition and Photography Competition are on display throughout the festival in the Lakes District Museum.
