Arrowtown has an excellent primary school, built in 1997. New entrants to Year 8 students are catered for in a bright, thoroughly modern and stimulating learning environment. The dedicated staff are amongst the best in the teaching profession. Arrowtown school has a decile rating of 10.

There are two theories as to why the town is named Arrowtown. One is that the river behind the town flows swiftly like an arrow.

There has been a fire station on the current site since 1890. The hand drawn hose reel was used until the 1940’s.
