How to Pan for Gold
The Arrow River
was once one of the richest scources of alluvial gold in the
world.
Although it has been well worked over the last 100 years,
the river still contains some gold today.
To pan
gold from the river, you need a gold pan, water and some river
gravel. Importantly you need to take some gravel from an area
where gold is likely to gather, like behind a rock, in fiborus
tree roots or under a ledge.
When you have some gravel in your gold pan, next is to fill
the pan with water and then move the pan in circles and from
side to side. Gold is heavier than the gravel and it settles
to the bottom of the pan.
After a few minutes of motion, the pan should be gently tipped
and carefully collecting more water, you will
wash some wash of the gravel out of the pan.
This should be repeated with intermittent circular and sideways
movement until very small amounts of gravel remain.
If any gold is present, it can now be seen.
