Friday 5th 2015 - Queenstown Trails Trust - Arrowtown Top 10’s

We do things differently down here in the deep South

Our cycle trails are of the ‘hub and spoke’ variety, all are off-road trails and incorporate vibrant Queenstown, historic Arrowtown and Gibbston Valley (wine country).

The trails range from easy to advanced and are designed to cater for all levels of walkers or cyclists, all ages and there are plenty of transport options on hand, including Bike Taxis. There are seven trails to choose from, totalling over 110kms and you can walk or ride these together or separately depending upon you skill level and how much time you have on your hands.

We love the trails that take in all that Arrowtown has to offer. A nice wee warm up is the Arrow River Bridges Trail – an easy 16kms – it zigzags across five bridges over the Arrow River through quaint country lanes, burrows under a State Highway via a tunnel and every corner you turn showcases beautiful landscapes and all of this while travelling on a world-class cycling / hiking trail. You can start, or finish, in Arrowtown and wind your way out following the Arrow River all the way to the AJ Hackett Bungy Centre – those who are keen should take a bungy jump – it’s good for your soul! Then, if really keen, carry on to the Gibbston Valley, this is where the famous Pinot Noir is grown, for a lunch, wine tasting and photos are a must. Two options here, ride back home to Arrowtown, or catch a Bike Taxi if your lunch is a long one. Either way, it’s a win win.

Just a note with the bridges - a couple of these are fabulous suspension bridges, you may have to breathe deep and look straight ahead if you are new to this, once you’ve crossed them though, you will be fine! Awesome photos to be taken on these bridges too.
