Lakes District Museum, Gallery and Information Centre.

Housed in the original Bank of New Zealand building built in 1875, the museum offers a fascinating insight to the district. New additions to the museum include an 1800's school room and soon to be built a new archives facility.

Walking
Arrowtown is a great starting point for many walks. The Lakes District Museum Information Centre can provide maps and guides.

Macetown Walking Track 6-8 hours return
Otago 150th Anniversary Walk (The Loop) - From Bedford St or Ford St. 45- 60 minutes
Sawpit Gully - 3 hours return
The Chinese Village - 30 minutes from Museum
Tobins Track - 2 hours return
Lake Hayes Walk - Bendemeer Reserve - Lake Hayes Show Ground 40 - 60 minutes return

Hiking Guided day hikes. Arrowtown Lodge & Hiking Co offer guided day hikes in the hills near Arrowtown as well as Alpine Historic and Bush walks in the Queenstown Southern Lakes district.

Gold Panning Try your hand in the legendary Arrow River - several outlets will sell or hire you a gold pan.
