Lovers of the great outdoors will immediately enjoy the convenience of the historic precinct. As distinct from the rush of downtown vehicles, here you can hike or cycle without fear of ever-present speedsters! - a real advantage for you
Arrowtown House is at the epicentre of the Queenstown Trail - a looping trail leading around alpine lakes to vineyards. We can organise self-guiding or guided cycling for you.
Enquire about the Arrowtown House Stay-Ride Around the Mountain Trail Package. Start your day with a scenic 45-minute cruise on the historic steamship TSS Earnslaw. Launched in 1912, today the Earnslaw is the only passenger-carrying steamboat left operating in the Southern Hemisphere. This cruise takes you from downtown-Queenstown to the opposite side of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand’s longest & third largest lake. You disembark at Walter Peak a 6500-acre sheep ranch founded in 1860. Today the ranch runs 1500 sheep and 1000 cattle. The sheep are hardy merino in the higher regions and perendale on the lower slopes. Walter Peak Station is notable for it’s isolation. Other than the steamship, its only other access is a 124 km unsealed road [from the direction of Te Anau] known for obvious reasons colloquially as the ‘Back Road’. Mounting your bikes you head off on the ‘Back Road’. Today you will cycle along this route enjoying wonderful lake & mountain views. Considering your close proximity to Queenstown you will find the feeling of remoteness & isolation very refreshing. Other than passing through a second sheep ranch - Mount Nicholas, you will see very few signs of human habitation. In the afternoon allow sufficient time to retrace your steps & return to Queenstown on the Earnslaw.
If you like to sweat but not cycle, a 5-minute drive brings you to a health & fitness centre. Here join in yoga, aqua aerobic, pilates, or pump classes. A 25m indoor pool awaits you.
Does all this sound too sweaty for you? Don’t worry! Queenstowners have also embraced 'the good life'
In 5 minutes you can be sitting in a vineyard tasting fine regional fare, enjoying a glass of the local bounty.
Other 5 minute drives lead you to ranches for horse riding, outdoor Japanese baths, Shotover Jet, white-water rafting. You can take the opportunity to join a 4WD excursion. Your safari driver will take you from the hotel to ghost towns & remarkable canyons while explaining 150 years of history to you
If by now you're thinking 'its all here'...................you'd be quite correct!
Following an active day, your body will thank you for pampering it with a therapeutic massage in the comfort of your room..............or if the mud flying off the wheels failed to improve your skin texture, rejuvenate with a cleansing facial!
